Who Do You Want Your Future Self to Be?

I want you to think about something…. Your self talk is a reflection of who you want to become in the future! So what are you saying about yourself?? What is the conversation like when no one is around? What thoughts are flooding your head?? Let’s redirect the negative thoughts. Let’s flip the script and let’s have our self talk reflect a future of joy, peace, and abundance.

Today we’re gonna talk about the conversations that you have with yourself.
We’re gonna do a little inventory about what that self talk looks like, and what picture you are currently painting for your future.
Because you might not even be aware of how incredibly damaging your current thought life is. The first step is always awareness because you can’t make a change if you don’t even realize that there’s a problem.
If you’ve been around here for some time you’ve heard me talk about positive affirmations, but I want to take it a step farther so that you can see what the opposite of that is and how damaging our thought life can be when we aren’t paying attention to the things we are saying to ourselves.
But don’t let this discourage you, be brave, and be willing to look at the thoughts and habits in your life that aren’t serving you well. Because once your eyes are open, you can make a positive change. And when you change your thoughts you change your life.

Your self talk is a reflection of who you want to become in the future!
So what are you saying about yourself?? What is the conversation like when no one is around? What thoughts are flooding your head??
Are you bullying yourself? Is the mean girl within you winning? Are you giving up the fight and saying “Devil you win this round.”
We have the same power within us that raised Jesus from the dead, yet instead of surrendering our negative thoughts, we’ve deemed it too hard to fight the battle with truth and we give up.
John 10:10 says “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the FULL”
Is the Devil stealing, killing, and destroying your joy??
Friends this is a battle for your mind – when you change your thoughts you change your life. You need to be wearing the armor of God because you are in a battle. The armor of God is not just a fun word picture or song in the Bible so that we can teach our kids. We need to be suited up every single day!!
Ephesians 6:14-18
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Be Alert!! This is where awareness comes in. There is a book by Joyce Meyers that I love and I should probably read it again here because it’s been a while, but it’s called The Battlefield of the Mind. And it’s one of the first books that I ever read that really opened my eyes to start thinking about what I’m thinking about.
Remember what we talked about earlier – Your self talk is a reflection of who you want to become in the future!
What vision are you casting for your future self?
Is it one of defeat, failure, and frustration? Or is it one of success, abundance, and peace?
This is why affirmations and speaking truth over your life is so important.
The more you speak negatively about yourself, you’re telling your brain that’s who you want to become in the future and that’s what you want more of.
What you focus on expands
Where your thoughts go your energy flows
If you’re someone who finds yourself asking questions like – Why can I never get ahead? Why is life always so hard for me? Why can I never catch a break? Why am I always so stressed out, Why can’t I do anything right? And you tend to spiral…. And you tell yourself things like That’s impossible for me, What’s the point in even trying I’ll never be good at it anyway?
If you relate to any of that – It’s a really good indicator that your self talk is toxic and negative. But we can change that
You have to remember that Everything is energy – it’s either positive or negative.
Your thoughts are either bringing you up or tearing you down. So which are you choosing? Because it’s a choice. You are not a victim to your thought life. Your brain is moldable and you have the power to create new pathways in your brain.
And remember the one thought that can interrupt every negative thought is “I have a choice”
And then you can speak truth over yourself, the truth of who God is and who God says you are, the truth about what you’re capable of.
Ephesians 4:8 says, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things”
It doesn’t say focus on the negative, focus on the bad things, tell yourself you can’t do it, speak lies over yourself, complain about everything.
In fact, Phillipians 2:14 says “Do everything without grumbling or arguing”
So this week, let’s do a little inventory of some of your last conversations either with yourself or someone else.
Was there a lot of complaining, was there a lot of excuse-making, was there a lot of negativity?
If you are complaining, if you are speaking negatively about yourself,
You are becoming a negative person who attracts more of the things they speak about.
But if you flip that- and if you are filled with gratitude instead of complaints and you are speaking positively about yourself, You become a positive person, who attracts more of the things they speak about.
Remember what your focus on expands – and Your self talk is a reflection of who you want to become in the future!
So this week focus on our self talk and where our attention is going and let’s redirect the negative thoughts. Let’s flip the script and let’s have our self talk reflect a future of joy, peace, and abundance.
